Can Brett Favre Once Again Be an Elite Fantasy Option in 2010?
If there's one thing we've all learned about Brett Favre, it's that he's not to be doubted. We know not to doubt his leadership, his ability to win games, and his indecisiveness.
But we're all also slowly learning not to doubt his ability to be an elite fantasy quarterback when he has the talent surrounding him to do so.
Plain and simple: Favre is a stud fantasy option, even as he counts the days until his 41st birthday, so long as he returns to the Minnesota Vikings.
Whether his return happens today, tomorrow, or in the final weeks of August, it likely won't matter.

Favre wants to beat the New Orleans Saints, the Green Bay Packers, and win a Super Bowl. Whichever story-line you love/hate him for, bite down hard, and chew.
It doesn't matter why he's coming back, folks. What's really important (in the fantasy realm, anyways) is that we quit doubting his talent, and start realizing that he's not your average NFL quarterback.
True, the happy-go-lucky gunslinger could crumble to Minnesota's turf by mid-season as all of his collective joints and bones burst and erode into dust.
But it's not likely. Yeah, he's an old due, but his track record doesn't lie. The way he finished the NFC Championship in near-cripple fashion (albeit not ending the way he wanted,) should have told us that.
Sidney Rice is a star, and he'll be there for Favre to connect with once again in 2010. And as long as Rice doesn't follow the unfortunate history of past Favre weapons (Robert Brooks, Sterling Sharpe, and Javon Walker) and fade through injury, we might see an even more productive campaign this season.
Why is NFL Soup so confident? It's not just our love for the most famous NFL greybeard. True, we do enjoy watching Favre's fake hand-offs, pump-fakes, and touchdown celebrations, but also just like being right when it comes to 40+ year old fantasy options.
Mostly because he's Brett Favre, but also because, well, those 40-year-old fantasy gems just don't come around too often.
Add Favre's electric offensive weapons up, and you'll get the only equation needed to bump Favre up your fantasy quarterback rankings when/if he does finally return.
He's got a big, strong tight end in Visanthe Shiancoe. Shianchoe isn't afraid to go over the middle, meet tacklers head on, and doesn't do too shabby in the red-zone (18 total scores in past two seasons).
Then there's that little ex-Florida guy, Percy Harvin, who simply makes plays, whether it's out of the slot, taking hand-offs, or returning kicks and punts.
Harvin is entering year two, and a slight migraine issue aside, doesn't appear to be phased by the NFL.
We agree the defense needs to be a bit more consistent, the offensive line needs to remember that their main job is to block, and that Bernard Berrian's hammy needs to stop feeling so sick all the time.
But when you have Adrian Peterson to fall back on, all of these so-called "problems" start to fade away.
The NFC North offenses and defenses are better than they were in 2009, and the Minnesota Vikings are likely to have a giant red target on their backs.
But this is Brett Favre, and he's still got something to prove, even if he continues to suggest the opposite.
We're not saying he'll throw for 4,200+ yards and 30+ scores again, or even that he will avoid a late-season fade (although he did last year).
What we are saying, however, is that if he comes back, he'll be a Top 10 fantasy option, and you should feel fairly comfortable with him as your QB1.
